Upgrade to Leopard, don't upgrade XCode, and XCode crashes immediately on start-up.
Upgrade to XCode 3.0? Not an option, if you want your product to still run under 10.2.8.
However, this claims that XCode 2.5 is compatible with Leopard.
Perhaps re-installing XCode 2.5 after upgrading to Leopard will work? Hmm, wonder what version of XCode is on the Tiger CD? Uh-oh, where is the Tiger CD? It's not in the Tiger CD box. fume.
