Being able or unable to manage emotionally is not even remotely the same as being skilled at mathematics. They appear to be being treated as virtually identical by the school, however, to the detriment of both her confidence in her mathematical ability and whatever interest in mathematics she previously had.

This problem is widespread in schools and has been for quite some time.
