grumble, not what I wanted to be doing with the day

This afternoon Sophia is staying with the babysitter at school and they are going to work/attend the school fundraiser tonight. Barring unforeseen disaster (always a possiblity with Sophia), this will give Sophia somewhere to be until rather insanely late in the day-- like, until about 21:00. This is going to cost a lot of money, paying the babysitter for so many hours. I thought, well, I can well take advantage of the time to get caught up at work. So many things at work are so desperately clamouring for my attention.

But no, I am on my way to the doctors' office, again. My ears are still full of... something. Clearly the antibiotic was effective against the infection, because my ear did drain a bit soon after the first dose, and hasn't been nearly as painful since. But it's still really full of pressure. It is rather extremely annoying. Additionally my hearing is not right. Disturbingly, my hearing has taken a turn for the worse today, more than 48 hours since I finished the course of antibiotics. I have tried everything to try to achieve drainage: blowing my nose, steam, big cups of herbal tea, hot showers, jumping up and down, yawning, snorting Tabasco.

What do I hope the doctor will do? I don't know. I don't think more antibiotics are called for. I don't feel feverish or sick. (Also dreading future antibiotics, because of how out of whack my digestive system got from this course of Augmentin.) I haven't been taking decongestant other than Nyquil because decongestants make me feel weird. The only time I ever took Mucinex, I thought "never again, No Way." Interestingly, wikipedia implies that unlike other decongestants, the active ingredient in Mucinex is not an epinepherine agonist. The decongestant in Nyquil is; I think that should make me feel weird (I vaguely recall disliking Sudafed for similar reasons) but I think I just fall asleep before noticing the weirdness. The one time I stayed awake after taking Nyquil, I was not a happy camper.

My ears feel like the time I thought they were getting infected because there was so much pressure, but it turned out that they were chock-full of earwax, and irrigation brought complete relief. It will be so nice if that turns out to be the case again. Can't possibly be the case, because they just checked my ears one week ago, and cleaned the wax out of the worse one. How fast can ears produce earwax?
