Actually, it would be helpful to have a pickup truck or van to take the large furniture items the approximately 600 feet from the loading dock of one building to the loading dock of the other building. I was thinking "but that puts us at the far corner of the building, away from my apartment", but it would still reduce the distance that the table has to be carried overall. Also, the elevator near the loading dock is larger than the elevator near my apartment, which would make things a lot less awkward there.

So, while this can certainly be done without any kind of vehicle, if someone could bring one it would very much be appreciated!

Unfortunately, Ann and I have (separate) plans for this evening and we'll be away this weekend.

Can it be strapped to a hand-truck?

I might be able to come by tonight.

I'm not sure. The table has little legs that stick down below the bottom shelf by about 8', so what happens when you tilt the hand truck? The shelving unit will have to come apart to fit into the elevator, without question. Once it's apart, the pieces are not heavy (it's that particle board that Ikea uses, not wood).

Would Saturday work better? I don't think tonight is going to work out. Especially if you don't have a rubber mallet handy. Maybe I should just re-set expectations with Mandeep, and move everything later.

my small (a chevy s-10 - think 'ford ranger'-sized) pickup truck has a cap on it. think it might fit in?

With the 2 leaves folded down, and put on its side, I imagine so. But what's the width of the door in the back?

around 4.5', I think. Do the legs come off the table? I'll measure it when I get home tonight.

Also, if you can drive stick, you're welcome to just borrow the truck for a day or two and that way you don't have to coordinate with me and other moving folks.

opening is just shy of 60" wide (just shy of my full wingspan) and about 30-32 inches high (this is a guestimate - I couldn't find a damned tape measure))

Oh, plenty big. The only question is do we need a truck at all, or will it fit in

drwex's car (probably some kind of station-wagon-ish hatchback thing). We just need just over 4' wide, and just over 2' high opening in the back.

Could probably use your truck for moving some folding tables to Worcester. Probably one from my house, and a few from

skreeky's house.

I have never driven anything as large as your truck in my life. (Almost that large, but not quite.) Can you do some driving of tables around?
