FastTrack: stuff needed

So, it turns out that the Secret Masters of Arisia do like my "Magrathean Apprentice Training workshop" idea. The idea just fell through the cracks for a while. But now it's been found, and they have added it to the schedule: Sunday at 3:30, I believe. They want to put my name on it, but I'm not in Zambia, and I have no idea how one gets into Zambia.

The strong preference at this point is to do the paper mache planets instead of buying foam balls, which will be time-consuming for some volunteers (such as me), and not very elegant looking, but WAY cheaper. Making them at-con is not going to work out. (Do hours I spend at home before the con making paper-mache forms count towards earning me a "hand in the bottle" T-shirt? :) I will need to figure out some time to make a big pile of paper-mache globes. I need some stuff; if you have any of this this stuff to contribute (mostly cheap and/or recyclables) I would be grateful.

HERE is the stuff I will need:

* 2 liter plastic soda bottles which I cut up to make stands for the paper-mache to sit on while it dries. (Believe it or not, we never have any of these in our recycling bucket, since we got a SodaStream.) I just need a few.
* newspaper (that you would have put into the recycling bin otherwise; but not so old that they are yellow and crinkly).
* 10" diameter round rubber balloons (preferably unused because if they have already been inflated, they will probably deflate before I get around to doing the paper mache)
* white school glue Elmer's or off-brand; I need a shocking amount of this. If you have any half-used bottles which the kids are having a tough time squeezing out because the top is dried up and cloggy, perfect! I will use up the dregs and you should treat your kids to a fresh bottle.
* Non-toxic gesso or acrylic paint in bulk quantities

I think that's it. I will be at the food-themed party tonight (Friday). If you have any of this stuff to contribute, ESPECIALLY glue, gesso, or balloons, it would be awesome if you would bring it to me there. :) :) :)

I would consider your time spent at home to create something for Arisia to be worth crediting against volunteer hours (not to mention materials).

Yes, time spent pre con counts for volunteer hours, both for you and for anyone else who works on it (at your craft nite, for example).

The Fast Track folks need to ask the Reg folks to set your properties for Zambia.

If you end up needing to supplement things with styrofoam, american science and surplus has a pretty good selection/price (http://www.sciplus.com/recommend.cfm/recommendid/9765).
