Lou's

Yay for Lou's Custom Exhaust! They fixed my car's exhaust system for 4% of the money Mineke was going to charge. Lou actually has people on staff who can weld-- and thus they can attach a new pipe to an old catalytic converter, if, as in my case, the catalytic converter is fine and just a pipe is worn out. Mineke was planning to replace the whole exhaust system from the manifold on back because they can't actually fix anything. Absurd.

Thank you everyone for the pointer!

You are quite welcome. That's what happened with [livejournal.com profile] drwex's car. Subaru wanted over $2500 and Lou's charged us $80 to weld the spaces where there were gaps.

Hm! Where are they? Always good to know of competent shops!

Waltham. Absolutely the place to go to if your local muffler shop tells you that you'll have to replace an exhaust section that includes a catalytic converter due to a rust-out. They don't do anything other than exhaust work, though.

There are "Lou's Custom Exhaust" shops all over the place. The one I went to was in Billerica because it slightly beat out the Reading one for proximity.

There's twice as many Lou's shops as the last time I checked.

The closest one to you might be in Medford.

That's excellent. Did you get a big grapefruit-shooter muffler while you were at it? :-)

You're welcome.
Though I have to give props to the Meineke guy who was helpful and honest enough to actually refer me to Lou's in the first place, rather than make me pay for the complete assembly to be replaced at his shop.

sounds like you pretty much had done, what i had done.

cats are supposed to be "lifetime" parts, unfortunately, while the cats might last, sometimes as we know, the nearby parts don't.

this is a major reason why Lou's has a good niche in the market. they CAN fix things.
