trolling for vacation advice

chhotiiI think it's a good idea to take vacation once in a while. I think it's best to leave Massachusetts in March, when it's still unbelievably cold and crappy, and go somewhere much warmer. Sophia is still so young, we need to go somewhere that is a) kid-friendly and b) not too expensive (because NEVER AGAIN do I want to spend lots of euros to go somewhere, only to spend the whole time I'm there dealing with a child melt-down, and thus feel like I've wasted lots of euros.)
Florida springs to mind: warm, cheap, priced in dollars, geared up for tourists. We go to Tampa/St. Pete once in a while, but Rich wants novelty and has suggested Miami. That could work. What else am I looking for in a vacation? In years past we've taken the opportunity to watch pro baseball on the cheap by going to Spring Training games. As I mentioned, no way we will see the Red Sox in spring training this year. If any other baseball team is as good as any other, we could see the Baltimore Orioles near Miami; the rest of the Grapefruit League is nowhere near Miami. Staying near the beach, so that we could go to the beach without too much fuss, and have that as kind of a default filler activity, is something that worked out well in Clearwater, Florida, but not so well in Barcelona. Well, it can work. I have to figure out the criteria to make sure it does work.
The Miami area has an aquarium, a zoo, and a children's museum. The children's museum will have a Suess exhibit the week we would go. This is just enough activities to stretch out and fill up the week, like so:
Saturday: travel
Sunday: rest/beach
Monday: Mets v. Orioles
Tuesday: zoo
Wednesday: aquarium
Thursday: rest/beach
Friday: children's museum
Saturday: rest/beach
Sunday: travel
Is Miami the best choice for this sort of plan? Can anyone point out what lies outside the box that I should be considering?
