Aug. 28th, 2008 03:21 pmI should work towards a goal. Just taking classes is not goal-oriented enough. Sure, during the semester I have goals-- to do well in that class, and find out where the course material takes me intellectually. But there should be some bigger over-arching goal. I've gone down the path of taking a class before, and not actually arrived anywhere.
That goal should have something to do with solving the problem, how do I go about securing an interesting job sometime in the future?
OK, here's a goal: Harvard Extension's MLA in Biotechnology with a Bioinformatics concentration. Bioinformatics sounds good for me: the joining of what I'm finding interesting (Biology) with what I have skills in (programming). (Hey, if it doesn't pan out, I'll formulate a different goal.
First step: admission. Harvard Extension is funny, you don't just apply, you take some classes at Harvard Extension and they admit based on perform in those classes. To make progress on this path, I should take zee French professor's other class this semester. Oh no, not the French professor again! Just kidding, I think I'm used to him now. Whee, it meets on Tuesdays! Yay, this one is 5:30-7:30, much better for my schedule!
Still planning to take the Bioinformatics class next semester.
