Woke up to the news that looters have cleaned out the National Museum in Baghdad. Archaeologists have been imploring the Bush administration to protect the ancient things of Mesopotamia as they take the place over, but now we see that there's no evidence that they were listening. Writing systems of the western world all trace back to Mesopotamia. How much of the evolutionary history of writing have we now lost?
