friend lists
Aug. 5th, 2003 09:11 amIt's just too easy to procrastinate on LJ. (Like now, for example.)
My Friends page is getting rather lengthy. Yeah, I know about filters. But if I have friended someone, they get to see posts in which I may make not quite discreet comments. If someone is seeing information that I don't consider totally public, then I should be keeping track of them, to some extent-- at least bothering to read their livejournal. Yes, I know, I could have custom filters on my posts too, and have 2 (or more) tiers of friends-- people I do read and who do see my inner postings, and courtesy friends-- and I'm sure that many people do that-- but something's wrong if I have to make things that complicated. Really, that implies a degree of complexity that I just can deal with. So if I'm not comfortable saying something in front of all the people on my Friends list, I don't say it here. Leading, of course, to some interesting and striking gaps in my narrative of my life. Some things I just haven't found the words to explain yet. Oh well, so much for the "journal" concept.
Today I tried to purge my Friends list. Found only one that I could eliminate, and at the same time found that I've been friended by someone whom I decided I really do want to read, so net change in length of friends list: zero.
I wish I could filter based on type of post rather than just by who does the posting. I'd exclude all the posts that are the output of those silly on-line quizzes of the form "What color jellybean are YOU?"
