Last I heard, the date of the lab moving was still up in the air, but it may be October 1. I'll be out of the country on October 1. So I should pack ahead of time, right? Well. Last I heard, Harvard and BIDMC were still bickering about who pays for our moving costs, so we haven't even bought cardboard boxes yet.

Packing and moving can happen at the last minute. They most probably will. The wrecking ball will show up and folks will go oh my god we have to move RIGHT NOW and they will stuff everything into boxes haphazardly. If this happens while I am away, I will not have any control over where stuff winds up, and will not be able to find things, making my life irksome after the move. Also, if it's last-minute, I lose the opportunity to use moving as a chance to filter and sort stuff. So I'd like to get packing before this game of chicken with the moving logistics ends.

But I'm dead-set against spending my own money for things the lab should pay for. They have already gotten lots of my time for free, I should not be subsidizing their lameness. But I would be willing to, oh, drive my yummy car to Somerville and see friends and, by the way, pick up some boxes. So I'm on the look-out for free box offers (and just after September 1 is not a bad time for this quest.)

Called ceo to ask about boxes. Turns out, someone else called dibs. Damn, damn, damn.

Mom just called, from the hospital! She has Lyme's disease, of all things. Well, sounds like, fortunately, it was caught quickly, since she keeps a sharp eye on how she's feeling, always worrying over how her lymphoma is doing, and if she has any kind of infection suspected, the doctors swarm around. It's treatable with antibiotics, thank god. It sounds like, I think, Lyme does big damage only if you don't catch it quickly, but I have not researched. Well, Mom thinks that at the worst, chemo will be delayed by one week, and Paris will still happen. Whew.

I am even more paranoid about ticks, now.

Sweetie's baseball game was canceled-- pathetic and absurd, since it hasn't rained a drop since this morning. But he was joyful about this because the desire for a drill press of his own has been growing ever stronger ever since discovering, yesterday, that the hand-held drill is too lame for the loft-building task. So he headed over to Sears after work to drool over (and ultimately buy) a drill press, and I met him there with the car.

Since we were already on "the right side of the river", we swung by rmd's, to hunt down the promised boxes. But of course she wasn't home yet-- probably works typical geek hours-- so we went to Davis Square to eat dinner, giving Diesel a wide berth. Ate at Diva, the Indian place; yummy and unusual dishes. I ate every last piece of my eggplant soaked in heavy rich sauce. (To think, during the past few days, I thought "yippie, I'm too depressed to eat, maybe I'll lose some weight!" Heh, that's over.)

Back to rmd's, still not there; so back home, to give Sweetie a chance to play with his new toy, I mean tool, before the neighbors go to bed.
