Feb. 14th, 2009 02:16 pmThis is why I'm not entirely thrilled with shopping on-line.
Last weekend I bought something on-line. The picture of the item looks promising; however, I can't touch it through the computer screen, so I don't know just how it will work out in reality. But it looked promising enough to risk $15 plus $3 for Express Mail delivery, the higher-end delivery option offered. Not that I'm in so much of a hurry, but that delivery option came with a tracking number. I found the idea of a tracking number comforting, thinking that my stuff would not be lost wandering in the void, if I could track it. (Hah.)
Today I start wondering, hmmm, didn't I order something that was supposed to arrive in less than a week, at least a week ago? I go look in the mailbox. Just the typical junk mail. I look on the porch. Nothing. I look in the usual places where snail mail gets deposited when the snail mail pile overfloweth-- kitchen table, etc. Nada. I go into my e-mail, get the blessed tracking number, punch that into The Int0rweb, and get:
Scan History
Date Time Location Status
February 12, 2009 11:04:00 [my town], MA [my zip] DELIVERED
February 12, 2009 05:47:00 LYNNFIELD, MA 01940 ARRIVAL AT UNIT
February 11, 2009 12:03:00 NASHUA, NH 03062 PROCESSED
February 9, 2009 22:03:00 PORTLAND, OR 97218 PROCESSED
February 8, 2009 14:16:00 98662 Electronic Notification
WTF? OK, now what do I do with this information? I can't go to the seller and say "I didn't get my stuff, gimme my $15 back" because here is evidence that it actually went to my house. Now what do I do? I'm totally at a loss.
This is why I like brick-and-mortor stores, where I can grasp the item I'm paying for firmly in my hand, and carry it home in my own car.
