The first thing I did when taking possession of the apartment was to take delivery of a newly-bought futon frame. When [livejournal.com profile] gosling heard this, she said "oh you should have told us you needed a futon frame!!!! You could have had the one that's just taking up space in our basement." Oops. No big loss, except that a) I paid a couple of hundred bucks that I could've saved, b) the futon frame continues to take up space in [livejournal.com profile] gosling's basement, and c) I'm sure the one that I bought isn't any better than the one that they want to get rid of. So I said, "hmmm, maybe I should post my wish-list to LJ, in case this kind of thing happens again?" [livejournal.com profile] gosling said, "oh, totally."

But I've been diffident about doing so. I don't want to seem to be just the taker, luxuriously appointing my apartment with free furniture mooched off of my friends.

Then this just happened... Sophia has been wanting a bunk bed. She loves the $2,999 bunk bed at Jordan's, but that's not happening. I've been thinking out loud about what might be another option that would be cheaper, but nearly as cool. Yesterday Sophia commented on how it might be cool to have a bunk bed with a folding futon sofa frame on the bottom bunk. Well, Rich has (had?) one of those, but has mislaid some (most?) of the parts. But another friend has one just like it; I thought, we should go see the intact one, see if Sophia thinks it's as cool as I do, in which case it would be worth trying to salvaging Rich's. So, sent off e-mail to the friend with the intact item, and got back...

Wow, I wish you said something 3 days ago. We couldn't get rid of the thing on craigslist, so it went to the curb... hardware and all, Wednesday morning. We figured someone would pick it up either for furniture or for the scrap metal. If you want to go check for it, it may still be there...

Alas, it's not there. Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!! D'oh! I really liked that bunk bed. If I knew the owners were eager to get rid of it, I would definitely have taken it. Rats rats rats rats.

OK, so to try to keep this kind of thing from happening yet again, here's my Furniture List. (There's also an Other Stuff list, which I could post at some point.) Things I plan to try to acquire one way or another. If anything on this list matches up with any of your decluttering needs, maybe we can do a deal.

Living room/my room:
* Small side table with storage, light wood, such as this one:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10198411/
* Coffee table with storage, light wood, such as this one: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90207157/ (or smaller. The one at Ikea is a bit on the big side.)
* Very small shelving unit that matches birch effect expedit unit I already have. Such as this one: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80135298/ (or a very small chest of drawers or nightstand with drawer and shelf, light-colored wood)
* Large poof chair? (maybe take from 'burb house?)
* Table lamp with shade muting light bulb from nearly any angle, such as: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/40172462/
* rug (Jordan's)
Dining room:
* Small computer desk with shelves, less than 48" wide
* (will bring desk chair from 'burbs)
* black occasional table that is EXACTLY like the one in Glen's entryway (probably not going to happen because I don't think it's made any more)
Sophia's room:
* Either a twin-over-full bunk bed; or, less desirable, a twin-size loft, such as: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70161834/
* Full-size mattress
* Table lamp that tends to block blue light, such as:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90155016/ or http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10213317/#/70219552
* bookshelf for Sophia
* dresser drawers for Sophia
* plastic organizer drawers-- bring from 'burbs
* Craft table (maybe take table that Rich isn't using from upstairs hall if he doesn't need it for keys?)
* purple rug (Jordan's)
* large tray (where's the one that Rich had?)
