May be a slight change of plans. I spoke to the real estate agent down the hall, who happened to be the one who showed me the apartment I've been renting-- she has known my present landlord for a long time, through many real estate transactions. I told her what happened, and I explained that I had been dragging my feet to move out of the rental into my new apartment because I was considering some renovations, at least paint, etc.; but that that no longer seems feasible to do right now because of suddenly needing to pour resources into the house. I asked her, OK if I can promise to clear out of the rental on May 18th, would my landlord prorate the month, at least refund me for a bit of June, so he can get in and paint and clean and fix? Which the rental badly, badly needs. She said that he is the cheapest, most tight-fisted bastard on Earth, and would be most unlikely unwilling to forgo a bit of the rent to do renovations. No renovations were promised in the lease with the new tenant (moving in July 1st.) So, I can ask, but it's most unlikely.
So she suggested a different solution. Lease out the new apartment for a month. At least I would make up a bit of money that way. She knew of a family looking to rent for just a month in the same apartment building so they can re-do their kitchen. Called them up, they would be thrilled to rent my apartment for a month. They are coming to see the apartment tonight at 7:00.
So, if I'm going to do that, moving stuff into the new apartment is/was a mistake. I don't know how much of my furniture they can work around, but they are sure not going to want to live with too much of my stuff, even for a month.
Therefore,
With my two Brookline apartments still in flux and up in the air, it makes sense to me to continue using the house as storage, rather than rushing to figure out how to fit the stuff I want into one of these little apartments. Getting the house ready to show I can't imagine would happen before the end of June, anyway. There's landscaping, there are repairs that I know I have to complete, there's other stuff that needs to get done. Getting the house on the market in July would be wonderful but maybe even that would be optimistic.

Therefore,
probably not doing the apartment shuffle on May 17th. However, stay tuned for further updates.
Moving big stuff will still have to happen, but most likely now right at the end of June. If anyone does show up here on the 17th, maybe we will work on planning out the logistics of the move, and/or move some stuff back to the old apartment. With my two Brookline apartments still in flux and up in the air, it makes sense to me to continue using the house as storage, rather than rushing to figure out how to fit the stuff I want into one of these little apartments.
