Well, short of kidnapping (which probably wouldn't play well amongst the undecided voters), I don't think Obama can force the weasel into the debate.
But what Obama can do is attend, note that his opponent is absent, and then get Jim Lehrer (who doesn't like being stood up any more than David Letterman does) to moderate a "Town Meeting"-style Q&A with the attendees.
Obama looks presidential, McCain looks like a sock puppet.
I heard a disturbing theory 'round the proverbial water cooler; it may be more racial politics, in that it's a move by McCain to look good to the racist contingent by not only not 'stooping' to debate that 'uppity' other candidate, but scoring points by leaving him standing at the podium. I don't agree with it, but damn. And if it *is* the case, I hope it backfires but good.
