Not pleased with the idea of a bail-out for the American auto industry, which the major Dems are pushing for. It seems to me that the American auto industry got itself into trouble by not anticipating that gas prices could possibly go up as rapidly as they did. So now I get to pay for their stupidity? The government could at least do the bail-out in a way that kills 2 or 3 birds with one stone, such as buying up lots of the most fuel-efficient models and give them to the deserving poor. (However you define that term.) But I don't think that's what they are thinking of.

I'm not pleased with the idea either, unless the money comes with a huge number of strings. At least, I want guarantees that there's no possibility the money be used to continue lobbying for the regressive protections on poor mileage and emissions. Here's the money, you give the taxpayers a car that's safe and affordable and clean in five years or we take it back.

here's the money. we're going to profit share 20% of your business. you many NOT make the following models or types of vehicles (for example: SUVs)... the CAFE exceptions are gone - more massive taxes for non-compliance... no new models less than 25 mpg in passenger cars... ... ...

also, the cars have to be made BETTER.

also also, no cars for the poor. geez.

I try to convince myself they're going to bail out the auto industry not because the auto industry deserves it, but because there's an awful lot of people who are barely making it as it is and can't afford to lose their jobs.

Yeah. Concern for the little guy, I'm sure that's it.
