Does anyone have experience running Linux on Intel Macintosh?

With or without Boot Camp? Boot Camp seems awfully Windows-centric.

I gather that boot loaders are, or were, a problem. Don't know if the issues with elilo have been resolved.

This is a good suggestion. I can help you with this if you need it.

I'm not thrilled with the vmware idea. 1) It costs money. 2) I'd rather run Linux natively, that is, get OS X out of the picture entirely. This would be for running full-screen cognitive tasks with the best timing possible, that kind of thing.

I don't think that you need Boot Camp.

Pretty much, pick a distribution and a hardware base and then do a google search for that combination.

So, for instance, "debian macbook pro"

Folks like Hobbit might have specific information for you from a personal standpoint.
