travel misadventures, part 3
Jun. 13th, 2011 08:21 pmOK, so, you have to know how I eat at home. I am forever trying to get up to 9 servings of fruits and veggies per day. I also eat nuts, beans, whole wheat bread, and bran cereal. Lots of fiber.
Yesterday (Sunday) I went to the airport first and then got breakfast, so I had a Dunkin' Donut breakfast sandwich. For lunch, in a rush, I grabbed what they had convenient: a turkey wrap with an absurdly large amount of mayo. Plus, because I was so hungry, I got a baked goody, something like a cinnamon bun. For supper: I always try the hotel restaurant once: they featured "Minnesota chicken" which was chicken breast covered in sauce and cheese. In summary, I ate basically animal protein, starch, mayo, and beer.
Today my digestive system punished me for this abrupt and complete change of diet. Not to give you the TMI but I was suffering. Today I have been more cautious about what I eat, avoiding meat and seeking out fruit and veggies and high-fiber food, although it has been difficult because I pre-paid for a rubber chicken lunch that came with a free lecture by one of the luminaries of chronobiology. In the future I should try to travel with a stash of healthy food. Digestive systems do not like sudden change.
