Tennis class Monday morning gets the week off to a happy start.
Today we had a crop of newbies. You know the type: they swat the ball, and the ball goes in a high arc way up to the ceiling, and/or off to the left at a huge angle. (Yeah, I used to do that too.) So today we did nothing but forehand drills, with Jim expounding on the details of the little mechanics of executing a good forehand: don't squeeze the racket with the index finger or the thumb, keep the elbow in, get the racket back, footwork, power comes from turning your core, activate the left hand, watch the ball, follow through, keep the head down at the end. Class was pretty slow-paced, as Jim was either talking about these points, or feeding balls deliberately one at a time so he could critique each stoke, so I didn't get my heart rate up at all and didn't get my endorphin fix on the court. It wasn't boring, though, as I have work to do to improve these mechanics too.
Got my endorphin fix, rather, by taking a super-cold shower, as they have still not fixed the hot water heater. Yow that was freezing, eeks!
