Remember Ed Markey? Well, he's up for re-election in the fall. Yeah, already. (Curse John Kerry for being so impatient.)

Even though I have ACK SO MUCH OTHER STUFF TO DO, I cannot just let it go by without doing anything. So I have signed up for a shift of signature collection at the Shaw's in Porter Square on Saturday, 1:00 to 3:00. (I should be able to make it there after helping [livejournal.com profile] theloriest move.)

If I run into y'all at Somerville Open Studios, or at a Susboid birthday party this weekend, should I have signature papers on-hand for you to sign? He needs signatures to get on the ballot in the fall. If I recall correctly, I think anyone registered in Massachusetts as either Democrat or Independent can sign.

I wasn't here to vote for him last year. I'll vote for him twice this time!

Joking. I'm joking.

Anyway, I think it's worth having papers handy, yes.

I'm all for it in principle, but IMHO there's absolutely zero risk that the incumbent Democratic senator won't get enough signatures to appear on the ballot, so your impact will be small. If you have limited time to influence politics, I'd sign up for some other duty. Just posting a clear coherent set of arguments why to vote for him here in LJ is likely to have more influence on the outcome (if only by persuading poorly-motivated liberals to get out and vote).
