I have a couple of questions you might not have thought to ask--if you have already asked them, feel free to ignore. 1) Many employers have a life insurance policy on their employees that is supposed to go to next-of-kin. Have you asked for a copy of his contract from HR at Rich's place of work? If that is in there, it could significantly ease your money worries. 2) Does the mortgage include specific terms on tax payments and/or insurance? Some mortgages have insurance in case of death of the relevant party.
I also have another question: do you need food delivered to you? I know how to make a few things.
