I vacillate between "must sell my car and buy a new one NOW NOW NOW!!!" and "my car is fine, wait until probate is far enough along that there's plenty of cash flow to make car-buying easy..."
Yesterday I figured out how to put air in the tires at the closest gas station. Their air machine was broken in such a way as to make single women who up to now looked to the menfolk to deal with all things automotive but now have to figure it out on their own feel stupid, and have to implore the manly garage staff to come to their rescue. Jerks. Survived that; next time will have more clue, and will act less like a damsel in distress.
Opinions differ on how frequently one must change the oil in the VW. The owner's manual says every 10K miles, so that's what I've been doing religiously for most of the life of the car. Other people say 3K. The folks at ABJ say 3K, which got me worried that maybe I should be doing every 3K. I talked to another VW owner last night, who swore that 10K should be fine with the high-precision VW engine and the synthetic oil and all that. So I don't feel so bad that it's now 3 or 4K past the mileage that ABJ put on the sticker; that would still only be 6 or 7K since the last oil change, much less than the 10K that VW recommends.
But, I do see black spots everywhere I'm in the habit of parking. Hmmmm. Unfortunately it's a bad time to take the car in for service.
Today the car didn't make any creaking noises all day. Could properly inflating the tires make the rear struts feel better? Weird!
