questions for the rainbow-haired crowd
Dec. 23rd, 2014 05:49 amSophia has asked to have the ends of her hair dyed some remarkable color. Such as purple, perhaps. Apparently other 4th graders are doing this; it's trendy. I'm not opposed to the idea, it just hasn't been a priority for me. (My mother, OTOH, is horrified. I think she's being silly and old-fashioned. I mean, we are not talking about permanent body modification here. The ends of Sophia's hair need to get trimmed off periodically *ANYWAY*; she grows lots more hair all the time.)
I figure it would be a good $WINTERHOLIDAY gift to give Sophia a box of hair dye, which would implicitly come with the promise that I will actually get around to doing the dying as soon as she wants to do it. Not that I have much else going on on December 25, once I'm done with the cooking.
So, I went looking to see if CVS has Manic Panic (the only brand of hair dye in striking colors I've ever heard of.) Of course they don't. They did have something along those lines-- brand name "splat".
So, questions: Is this "splat" brand hair dye just as good, or should I hold out for Manic Panic? Or something else? Where does one buy hair colors that aren't brown or black or blonde, anyway? (The CVS in Chestnut Hill devoted only about 6 inches of to these non-physiological hair colors, and there were only 3 shades of splat on display.) I'm told that Manic Panic doesn't come with the bleach; why the hell not? Anything I should know about the selection of bleach to use, or the color?
