Today is my second to last day at work before maternity leave. I have changed gears, from trying to take responsibility for things to trying to punt things. It seems weird to be actively ceding turf-- saying "you should be able to deal with that yourself" rather than "don't worry, I'll write the code to deal with that for you"-- but I don't see any alternative, I'm going to have more to take care of that just my work turf soon. Once everything has been punted, though, being at work is rather boring.
One bit of code, I don't know if my cow orker has taken responsibility for getting it done or not. I think I had feebly tried to delegate the task, but then in a meeting, it was erroneously concluded that I was in a better position to figure out how to finish it, and the task came back to roost in my to-do list. But, I have reason to think my cow orker might have done some work, and I don't want to duplicate his effort. I've sent him e-mail basically saying "what I did is incomplete, here's why... You could complete this by doing it this way... If you've already done this, excellent! If not, let's get together and decide how this should be done." No answer. Sent more e-mail today, saying "here are the specs for how to finish this... if you want me to help you finish this, see me ASAP." Still no answer. Given that this is his project anyway, am I justified to now label this task Not My Problem and ignore it if he doesn't reply to my e-mail?
