I'll be curious to see who McCain picks for VP candidate.

I just hope he's dumb enough to pick Romney. Romney is not going to do anything for him. Yeah, sure, he'll pull in Michigan. But Mitt doesn't impress the social conservatives, who can smell what a flip-flopper he is.

I'll bet it's not Romney, though. I'll bet the attention on Romney is just a diversion.

Scarily threatening possibility: that McCain could actually have the guts to go with an edgy choice like Sarah Palin. What a brilliant move that would be for the Rs. All that soft support for Obama from the hard-core Hillary supporters who have been fixated on the politics of gender identity? Hollowed out, overnight. Everyone will do the math: 72-year-old, nearly senile McCain + Sarah Palin = Palin as first ever female POTUS. It will make this race all about the abortion debate, too, framed in a way that frames the debate very very favorably for the pro-life side. (Personally I'm not real impressed with Palin's choice to have Trig. I'm sure that as governor of Alaska, one has the resources for special schools for the boy forever. If you want to have a child-- well, Downs kids are sweet little love-bugs. Let's hear some rape victims talk about "God's gifts", shall we?)

The surreal possibility: Joe Liebermann? WTF? Yikes! I'm speechless.

do you really think there actually are that many pissed off Hillary supporters going for McCain? I know the press keeps looking and just about the only person they can find who goes beyond disappointed and resigned is that whack job claiming the 17 page report that's bogus with all sort of Al Quaida connections.

Part of the reason the RNC folks have been pushing Palin so hard over the past month is that it is thought that Hillary supporters would rather vote for a pro-choice/pro-war/pro-guns woman than any man. They are hoping to skirt the issue (pardon the pun) of her relative inexperience and take as much of Obama's soft support from the Clinton camp *and* rally the middle-of-the-road women from all parties.

*nod* The RNC clearly thinks that women are stupid, but we knew that already.

And now you have your answer. Nervous about Palin, but very, very glad to see Romney get snubbed.

Yeah, totally with you on the Romney-snubbing. I disliked him from day one of his run for governor. Don't even get me started on that.
