C. elegans

C. elegans is a little creature that always has exactly 302 neurons.

I'm puzzled. According to Wikipedia (...and everything in Wikipedia is true, right?...): its neurons don't fire action potentials. Huh? What use are neurons that don't fire action potentials? In a different article, Wikipedia says that the same is true of sponges.
