100 day's journey began today
May. 23rd, 2003 04:12 pmSo Jude was telling us about the "100 day's journey" meme at the Yankees game. I had seen istemi's drawing journey. I commented that it seemed like a really good way to make headway on something-- you make a firm commitment, but it's not daunting, because it's just 100 days. But I didn't think of anything to do.
At the gym last night, Sweetie was jiggling and pointing at various bits of himself, going "is this fat? Where did I get all this flesh?", which lead him to think of his 100 day's journey: running around the pond every day, at 7:00 am, rain or shine, for 100 days. Initially our goal is one loop around the pond (1.45 mile) but we may work up from there.
This morning I awoke at 6:40, stiff, groaning, sleepy-head, barely alive until I had my first cup of coffee, cursing the day, as usual. I was horrified when I remembered that we had planned to do this and that I had said "ooo! ooo! Great idea!" I couldn't decide which was going to be worse, dragging myself out of bed or dragging Sweetie out of bed. It was raining, too.
To my great surprise, when I said to Sweetie "did you want to go jogging?", he remembered the 100 day's thing, and even in the cold morning light, still motivated to do it. It took us a while to gather our strength to get out of bed, and we didn't manage to keep at a jogging pace the entire way around the pond (leg cramps), but we did it! There we were, jogging, before 8:00 am. I am so proud of Sweetie, and so impressed with what I can do when I have a motivated partner.
