No more USPS deliveries
Feb. 17th, 2009 10:37 amUnless we ever get the video surveillance of our mailbox going, I'm not going to consider delivery via USPS to our house a valid delivery option. Might as well chuck my merchandise into the dumpster at the sender's end.
The mail delivery person claims that she actually remembers putting a small parcel into our mailbox on Thursday. This leaves me with nothing to say to the seller. I'm sure he won't send me another after the post office assures him that my mailbox received the first one. Now why would the mail carrier say that? 3 possibilities that I can think of:
1) She just doesn't want to get hassled into trying to look for it.
2) She is not motivated to put in the mental effort to figure out whether she truly remembers the parcel, because she hates us. She has reason to hate us: my mother buys tons of stuff through catalogs, so she gets huge piles of catalogs in the mail every day, and we are not good about checking the mailbox every day. So sometimes she has had to look for a box to put the overflow on the porch, or something like that. We really have done irrevocable damage to our relationship with our mail carrier.
3) She did put it in our mailbox, but someone stole it. The punks in the neighborhood hate us, and they do take it out on the mailbox. Shortly after the election, someone beat our mailbox into shreds-- a coincidence? I think not.

Date: 2009-02-17 04:26 pm (UTC)in the future... well, sure, USPS for packages, but get them all sent as "signature required" so a human is involved. the carrier will attempt, in some cases, to still just leave it, but no signature, no delivery. ask me how i know ;) my old carrier of a few years ago would randomly get the signature for something like a $5 item (that required it), but leave a $400 item that REQUIRED it. one went missing once (and it was insured). funny guy to, he'd claim i wasn't home, when surely i was there. just a game. glad he's gone.
good luck, and commiserations.

Date: 2009-02-17 04:32 pm (UTC)I've noticed that my local USPS are also a bunch of lame-o's. They occasionally just decide to not deliver stuff, and claim that my front door was open, and thus the dog was an issue. This, even when the door was Never Open! I think they just don't want to walk the few extra steps to my front door, and write that as an excuse.
Luckily, boxes seem to be left in peace on my stoop. However, I've gotten boxes with the return receipt firmly attached to the box. This means I can toss the receipt, and claim it was never delivered. The delivery person might claim they put it there, but there's No Proof. I've actually complained about the return receipt being delivered to my home while I'm at work, and their response: Well, you got the package, didn't you? What are you complaining about?
Urgh.

Date: 2009-02-17 07:08 pm (UTC)supposedly UPS driver's jobs rely on not annoying customers, and apparently man a driver is canned due to negative reviews. they probably never get positive ones though.
as well, they are on a CLOCK, so they have to take every possible shortcut (literally too), or they get penalized as well, but officially, the company would never say "fake a signature" or "roll through stop signs". officially.
