sigh.

Yesterday I was really pumped about the success of the exercise-every-day plan. I went to Terri's Vinyasa class-- one of the harder yoga classes-- and I was really impressed with my progress. I was doing poses I never could before. Wow, actual progress!

But today came the task of sorting through the closet in preparation for the clothing swap. I set aside clothes (pants, usually) when I notice that they're snug enough to make me grumpy, and then before a clothing swap, try them on, pondering both my chances and my motivation to slim back down enough to wear the item in question.

Now, five months after resolving to bring lunch from home every weekday, two months after resolving to exercise every day, the LL Bean jeans are still not happening. Grump. But perhaps not yet hopeless, so back on the shelf they go. Perhaps this summer... when there's interesting options for exercising outdoors, when salads start to be appealing...

The green leather skirt, on the other hand, hopeless! Before it was just really tight around the waist. Now I can't even pull it on over my fat butt. Damn near damaged the zipper trying. *Out* it goes. Grump, grump, grump.

I realize that this must seem like a rather self-absorbed whine, coming from someone who isn't actually obese. I realize that it's perfectly normal for people to get a bit wider with age. I'm healthy, my resting heart rate and blood pressure always win complements from healthcare providers; my lover thinks I look great, and I have other admirers as well (I think :). And my standards for feminine beauty don't require scrawniness.

But. It's the out-growing clothes that really gets me down. Clothes are expensive, they're a pain in the butt to shop for, so when I find something I like, I really, really want to keep it. Until I've worn the crap out of it, or until it's embarrassingly out of date. I love certain items of my clothing. I do not, not, not want to stay on this plumpness trend. Bleh.

Actually, babe, this is 80% of the reason for my diet - not fitting my clothes and not having the money or inclination to replace them. Whereas most of our friends are pretty down on the idea of anyone wanting to lose weight, all of them have laid off my case immediately given that completely logical and practical reason.

In your case - with the new exercise, perhaps you're just changing shape? Then again, maybe Rich is just way too good a cook. :-)

Sympathies and hugs.
