So, apparently, Arisia hotel bookings opened up and they are going fast.

Being cheap, I got a King rather than a Double. Supposedly cots are "possibly" at an extra cost. Is the extra cost for real or not? If so, I can bring along an air mattress for Sophia, which might get inflated if she doesn't just crash out next to me on the big bed.

Weirdly, the hotel is apparently sold out of rooms in our blocks for Sunday night. Huh? Why would there be more people staying for Arisia on Sunday night than Friday or Saturday? People tend to start to leave the con on Sunday. Or did our SMOF overlords over-estimate the extent to which that would happen, and reserve a much smaller block for Sunday night than for the previous 2 nights? Oh, well, it may very well make more sense for us to leave on Sunday too. I'm not clear on whether Rich is supposed to work on MLK day. Sophia has that day off school, of course, but we should probably take the extra day at home to do laundry and so on.

Rumor has it that deguspice is starting a list of who to put in the kid ghetto; ceo asked about this and was reassured that his family was already at the top of the list! Should make sure that we are on that list too, as being in the kid ghetto was useful last year for organizing mass attacks on the swimming pool, group pizza orders, etc.

I'd say bring an air mattress.

Also, yes, the room block for Sunday was smaller than for Friday or Saturday... Ben's trying to get some more rooms for Sunday added to the block.

Y'know, I did not even realized doubles and kings weren't the same price because usually they are.

There aren't more people staying Sunday night, though. There are in fact fewer people, but there are also fewer rooms. They're trying to get more.

price difference!

Yes, doubles are a whopping $25 more per night. WTF? At such rates, a self-inflating air mattress will pay for itself reasonably quickly.

Given how many people tend to get stuffed into those double-double rooms (thus making them a commodity -- they sell out quickly!), I don't think it's unreasonable.

Compared to last year, doubles are $14 more and kings are $11 less.

I suspect it has something to do with the hotel expecting to get business travelers in for Sunday night. Last Arisia, I decided to extend my stay, but when I checked in on Friday, they said that there weren't any rooms available for Sunday at the con rate. I was smart enough to check again on Sunday, when their computers had noticed that business travelers weren't coming in the night before a holiday, and suddenly convention-rate rooms were available!
