Oct. 15th, 2012 11:55 amThe one thing that's going really really well is the weekly Monday morning tennis clinic.
Today my backhand came back from vacation. Hello, backhand! Good to see you. Hope you had fun, wherever you went off to.
There being exactly 4 gals there today, we did a bit of actual playing like we were playing doubles (as opposed to just drills and instruction). I served. Only one double-fault, woo-hoo! I feel like I am on the verge of having a serve that solidifies into being somewhat consistent. This would be super double-plus good. My ambitions are modest: I don't imagine putting a lot of pace on the serve, shooting aces that go whizzing by the opponent; no, all I ask is that my serves go into the service box frequently enough to not exasperate everyone.
I've never taken up a sport before. So it's interesting, observing the process of developing these types of skills. Interestingly, when all the pieces come together and I execute a good (for me) stroke or serve or whatever, it seems like the process of the pieces coming together happens outside of time, sort of.
It's 90 minutes per week in which I cannot fret about politics because my attention is focused on smashing fuzzy greenish bouncy balls. Couldn't I just play tennis all day, every day, until the election season is way behind us? Pleeeeese?
