Since I don't think you are on Facebook, I just wanted to let you (and anyone else reading this) know that a Group and an Event have been created over there:
I'm not currently a member of either of these, but I could join them and post your poll link over there if you want (and if nobody has already done this).
Ah, I see that Persis set up the Event to try to get a sense of head count, as she said she would. Wow, 93 yes's so far just on Facebook-- that was effective.
Sure, post the link to the Doodle poll. I won't be able to make 93 people happy simultaneously. But it will help keep everyone's plans more coherent, I think.
OK, I joined the event and the group and posted your link in both places. Someone should also post it on Rich's Facebook Wall, but I can't do that since I'm not on his friendslist. Maybe Jude or Persis can?
On Facebook, there's some discussion of a third possible location: Broad Spectrum, a large multi-room Burner art space in the Fort Point Channel neighborhood, a short walk from South Station. (Address is 369 Congress Street, 7th floor). The person who appears to be offering this space is Paul Erlich (someone I don't know directly)
Yeah, I'm quite familiar with the Broad Spectrum space. It would not be suitable at all for what I'm trying to plan. Not enough capacity, no parking, too weird for the family. I'm trying to plan the all-inclusive event; maybe they will have the after, after, after-party.
Could you tell Paul: I'm trying to plan something that will accommodate at least the 150 people people who have so far indicated on Facebook that they are going, and people who need to park somewhere, and family; none of which is going to work out at Broad Spectrum. For the event that is going to take place at a much bigger venue than Broad Spectrum, I would be extremely pleased if he would contribute some musical performance. (Paul is an exceptionally talented musician.) Thanks.
I posted the above paragraph as a comment in the Facebook thread where Paul had suggested Broad Spectrum. I also sent it to him as a Facebook private message, and included your e-mail address in that private message.
It may be a good idea for you to at least temporarily join Facebook, just so that you can read and participate in the memorial community that has gathered there. I try my best to relay messages back and forth between you and them, but that will always result in delayed communications and I can't guarantee to be 100% reliable.
Some other folks in that Facebook community, including anotherjen, are trying to coordinate cleanup and organizing of the Wilmington house.
Edited to add: there are now 400 members of the memorial community on Facebook. Also, there are 159 'going' and 24 'maybe' in the Facebook event (not all of whom are in the memorial community).
