I don't know how this usually works. If you want a plain white American Standard toilet, you can go to Home Depot and get one in a box off the shelf, probably bring it home in your car just before the plumber gets there. However, I got all picky about various features and wound up going to the Kohler store to order all the fixtures-- tub, toilet, sink, and vanity. They are going to send a truck in 6 weeks which will disgorge my porcelain fixtures out onto the curb, and I have to hope that my contractor can have a couple of guys around for the delivery window so they can take the items up to my condo. There they have to sit, not in the bathroom because there is no room, but somewhere else in the apartment until my contractor has time to destroy the old bathroom (probably about 3 weeks later.) I imagine I am going to have to stow some stuff so I can push the coffee tables back and put the tub in the middle of the living room floor, where we will be climbing over it for three weeks. Toilet and sink can go-- maybe out onto the balcony? I hope this does not horrify the neighbors. Vanity can sit in a corner of the dining room, after I declutter a bit. Closer to the date when the contractor can fit me in, everything in the study has to get cleared out and piled somewhere, because the study is right next to the bathroom and I don't want to get any lead-contaminated tile glaze dust on any of the stuff. I am going to close the door to Sophia's room and seal around the door with plastic, to avoid any construction dust contamination, for the duration of bathroom renovations. Sophia and I will camp out-- somewhere-- until the dust has settled, been vacuumed up with a HEPA filter vacuum cleaner, and wiped up with a cleaning solution containing TSP.
