I am not going to post today about Donald Trump, insomnia, the Democratic party, the media, being woken up repeatedly by weird dreams about weird Donald Trump policy decisions, rape culture, traffic, my accountant, HR, IT, kids these days, girl-body things, today's sad news in the Suspects community, marijuana laws, hot water heaters, polyamory, how hot the weather was today, or anything else about the all-around crappy day I had today...

Other than about Lightening Chargers, the charger cable used by the iPhone 5? and the iPad?

The charger cables that came with Sophia's iPhone and Rich's iPad crapped out and stopped working long ago. So I bought another at CVS. It died almost instantly. I bought a 3-pack from Staples. Sophia reports this one doesn't work... nor this one... No, mom, none of these chargers work. Somewhere along the way I think we got an authentic Apple item and it didn't last any longer. I sent my mother with Sophia to buy school supplies at Staple's and told them while they were at it, we needed another charger for the iPhone. They got one that appears to be RUGGED! and STUDLY! and glows blue when it is charging. It appears to be failing now. The iPhone charges for about a second and then stops. The iPad won't charge at all. The iPad might be broken but I doubt the iPhone is. Yesterday it charged just great and the day before Sophia charged it at home and re-charged it with a friend's charger. It would be a really unbelievable coincidence if both devices' charging capabilities broke down the same day. They bought this studly-looking high-end charger all of about 3 weeks ago. I think [livejournal.com profile] ceo and [livejournal.com profile] gosling regularly buy new lightning chargers by the fork-lift pallet.

Meanwhile the charger that came with my (otherwise crappy) Android phone just keeps working, regardless of the abuse I put it through.

Is there something fundamentally flawed about the design of the lightening charger? Did Apple goof with this one? Do other people go through chargers at this rate? I think Sophia's iPhone is an iPhone 5. Do newer iPhones work with a charger that doesn't crap out and have to be replaced all the time? I didn't figure into the cell phone service budget the need to buy a new charger cable for the phone every few weeks. This is absurd. Talk about shoveling natural resources into landfill as fast as possible.

I've been using a lightning charger for several years with absolutely no problems.

Apple's little charger has been vaguely fine for me but I hardly ever use it. Instead I plug the phone into my computer, and I have iTunes configured to back up the phone. When I'm traveling I usually use my laptop computer as a charger too. My computer at work has a Lightning cable on it.

This does mean not having the phone at my bedside but that's just fine for me. That might not be so great for you as a parent...

How old is the Ipad? The snazziest charger in the world won't do jack to a battery that is toast.
