chhotiiToday's Boston Globe headline, the news that the CIA has evidence that Russia was active on Trump's behalf in the election.
On an inside page, the Trump transition team has been sending out questionnaires to the Department of Energy and so on, trying to track down who are those pesky scientists working on climate change issues. Fears are that they will be targeting scientists impertinent enough to really analyze climate issues for special persecution.
What are the motivations of these people? Was Russia afraid that we would stop global warming, and thus Arctic shipping would not open up? To think, the President-Elect of the United States has a back-room deal with a foreign power, promising to enhance their business interests by fucking up the Earth's atmosphere. Or do you have some less astonishing theory?

Date: 2016-12-21 04:15 am (UTC)With Putin, you never know. It's possible that Trump strokes his vanity. Or that Putin is worried that Clinton might really decide to put him back in his bottle. (Clinton is pretty hawkish.) But the most likely reason is that something like 3/4 of Russia's exports are oil and natural gas, so Putin really doesn't want serious restrictions on CO2 emissions.
