Members of the Electoral College are meeting on Monday, January 19th, in their respective State Capitals. Protest marches are being organized in all 50 states, to call for the Electors to use their judgement and stop Mr. Crazy Unqualified. If the Electors do not use their judgement in a case as extreme as this one, they are fucking useless. Link to the organizers' page is here.
In states which went for Hillary, such as Massachusetts (where I live), I'm not sure what the message of the protest march is?... Except maybe to shout down any asshat Trump supporters who show up?...
...Or just any excuse to protest? I'm ready to march and hold signs to try to make these points:
1. People are really, really, really unhappy with Trump.
2. These are not normal times.
3. The Left is energizing and activating.
But I wonder about Boston as a venue to make these points at this point. Am I to hold up a sign saying "Yay, you're voting for Hillary!"? Seems to me that in a state in which the Electors are all set to vote for someone who isn't crazy, knows public policy, etc, there isn't much to protest.
Anyway, I would go, despite my misgivings, if it didn't conflict with work. Those who can go probably should, with pro-Hillary signs-- the anti-Trumpers need to be as loud as possible for the next 4 years, and try to do a better job of out-shouting the Trumpers than we were doing before the election.
Of course, people are encouraged to go protest in a state that went for Trump, if at all possible, but for me that would be more traveling than I can do on a Monday.
