chhotiiI'd like to combine the information in these two spreadsheets and one other flat file into a single spreadsheets.
I can do this if I can dump these all into database tables and do a select with an outer join.
For this, I can use MySQL. But, I'd like to do this in the comfort of my own office.
So, I need to install MySQL. Downloading the source and following the directions on the Apple webpage for configuring and building has, in the past, proved to be easy, painless, and result in a well-behaved database that works right away.
But wait, the ./configure script aborts, complaining that there's no acceptable compiler. Search for gcc, sure enough, it's not there. Search for cc, it's not there either. Hmm. Why did this work on the other machine? Let's see: other machine has a cc in /usr/bin. Look in /usr/bin here. It's not here. Wrack brain as to whether any different steps were taken in installing OS X on the other machine. Hmm, I don't think so.
Unpack and look at one of the iBooks just purchased and which have OS X installed already. Try to rush through Apple's annoying set-up wizard, with lots of nosy questions, as fast as possible. OK, Apple, my phone number is 617-FUCK-YOU. Happy? Find that factory-installed OS X doesn't know cc either. Isn't that bizarre for a unix-ish system?
Look up Apple website. No clues on how to get just the basics such as cc and make. OK, fine. I'll install the whole Developer load of crap. Not that I need Project Builder, but hey, disk is cheap.
Have to register with Apple Developer Connection to download anything. But wait, what's my Apple ID password?
Wade into yahoo e-mail account in hopes of finding a message with Apple account details.
There are 900 unread e-mails needing to be deleted; I made the mistake of actually subscribing to a high-volume mailing list, and this account is now snowed in. Start the painfully slow process of deleting messages, 25 at a time, through the painfully slow web interface, in hopes of digging up something ADC-related.
