off to Pennsylvania

I'm motivated enough by this election campaign to try to do battle with my shyness. Have hooked up with the nice people at League of Conservation Voters and am planning a day of canvassing for Kerry in god-knows-where, Pennsylvania on Saturday, with my mother. Possibly Sunday too, depending on how well it goes.

Have wimped out on doing any election-day work on the issue of voting rights, though. I have all the contact info lined up to get involved in election monitoring in Florida or Ohio (places that sorely need it, sadly) but it started to sink in that at 30 weeks pregnant on November 2, I might be more high-maintenance than helpful on such a major road trip.

I just hope that there are lots of people out there who care as much about these issues as I do, and who neither are pregnant nor have lymphoma. The stealing of the 2000 election came as a surprise; but if the Bushes pull it off again, it means that people, collectively, just don't care enough.

Good on ya! The idea of canvassing makes me quail. Hell, I couldn't even handle going door to door selling cookies when I was a Girl Scout. :-}
