You Are a Liberal Republican

When you tell people that you're Republican, they rarely believe you.

That's because you're socially liberal - likely pro-choice and pro-gay rights.

You're also not so afraid of big goverment, as long as it benefits people and not politicians.

You are the most likely of any Republican type to swing over to the Democrat side sometimes.

???

Of course I answered "Democrat" to the last question
"which party do you most affiliate yourself with?" Is this
a bug? All I can think of is a) the logic of the
quiz doesn't do any branching, just weighing, and
b) where there's an option, my opinions on the issues
touched on by this quiz tend to be centerist,
there-is-a-middle-ground rather than way far hard
left.

Hm, good question, so I just took it myself.

Question 3 was particularly irksome, as the phrasing implies that Social Security takes away personal control of retirement options, as opposed to what it actually does, which is provide a base level of support to build up from that at least isn't zero. I'd say just from that the quiz is a bit biased, but to continue;

Question 4. Who should get a tax cut? I of course answered the very poorest people, but the question itself assumes that a tax cut is even possible. HeLLO? We're trillions of dollars in debt. Until we're back in the black, why is this even relevant?

The bias looks very conservative to me, so I'd say assume some slant there,
but it's not a bug. Consider some of the conversations we've had about business and finance. You are pro-profit, not pro-worker or pro-consumer, and that's Republican. Don't feel so bad about it, though. They're referring to real republicans, not the current crop of neofascists.

I came up as a "New School Democrat" which I don't think I am either.
But hey, it's just a quiz and it's funny to see what you get.

Oh, I'm not insulted that it called me a Republican,
it's just really really odd that the quiz asks about
political affiliation and then comes up with an
answer in contradiction to that.

It must be true, though, that there are a lot of
fiscally-conservative socially-liberal folks in the
GOP who are feeling really uncomfortable with where
their party has been headed. Wish more of them had
the guts to break rank, but no, they feel the need
to publicly pretend to love the neofascism. Bleh.

Parties are alliances of opportunity in order to attain political power.

I would look at it this way: If the Democrats could come up with a fiscally-conservative, socially-somewhat-liberal, and internationally-somewhat-aggressive candidate, there's a serious chance of stealing a significant segment of Republican voters.
