The Arisia website says of Arisia 2009 "This was the largest Arisia to date." I infer from that the 4 day con concept will be judged a success, and next year's will be 4 days long too? What do the SMOF have to say on this issue?

Date: 2009-01-25 12:33 am (UTC)a friday, saturday, two sunday felt more like a relaxacon.
it was okay THIS year. i'd vastly prefer two saturdays in feel from now on.
i probably will only choose a 3 day offering next time, including hotel options.
sunday was effectively goodbye and packout day for too many people, and thus not as nice, except for one movie. sunday afternoon/evening felt DEAD.

Date: 2009-01-25 12:41 am (UTC)How much do you think we were affected by the weather on Sunday? I noticed that a number of people seemed to leave earlier than they planned because of it.

Date: 2009-01-25 12:46 am (UTC)some of the programming just didn't grab me. too ... esoteric? not my bag? i dunno.
the two good movies shown on sunday were nice though.
saturday feel. more parties? more circus? dunno.
honestly, i think the weather was... nothing. a lot of the people i talked to had to work monday, and/or travel to do so/get home. 3 day con mentality and enforced by work/life. i don't really recall anyone being worried about the weather. wasn't even an issue leaving when i did.
a number of artists also just packed it in and were gone sunday. i missed their stuff.

Date: 2009-01-25 02:04 pm (UTC)Regardless of what we do, lots of people are going to leave on Sunday. People have jobs and pets and driveways to shovel. The con is just going to have to work around that fact. I don't think we can turn Sunday into a second Saturday, but it can have its own, quieter appeal.

Date: 2009-01-25 12:38 am (UTC)Not to speak for anyone but myself, but I thought the 4 day concept was a success when we compared 2007 (3 days) and 2008 (the first 4 day con). It's somewhat counter-intuitive but several operational issues of the convention are eased by having 4 days instead of 3.
