I don't tend to do the *hugs* comment on every post that calls for sympathy. If I don't have something to say, usually I don't comment for the sake of commenting. Sometimes I have something to say, but it would sound unsympathetic if I didn't spend a lot of time weaving tack in. In those cases I don't comment either, unless I know that the poster has thick skin and a sense of humor.

I hope I don't seem unsympathetic just because I have LJ and so I must have seen your outpouring of pain. Then again, I don't get much gratuitous sympathy on my own posts, in general. Perhaps people know it's not my style.

Or perhaps I am unsympathetic. I'm such a marble cake of good-hearted cuddly sweetness and mean misanthropic bitch.

Everyone's talking about how cold it is outside. I don't want to walk to the bus stop and wait for a bus. My leg hurts from the gym and I neglected to wear my snowpants.

I could probably get a ride home from Sweetie, but it would help if I could reach him. He forgot his cell phone at home. I forgot that he forgot, otherwise I would have been more on the ball about either finding other ways to communicate, or getting home during peak bus frequency. He no longer has coworkers whose cell phone numbers I know. I don't know his office extension and they haven't put him in the company directory yet. He isn't on-line. My e-mail to him is probably snowed in under a blizzard of elbows.

E-mail just received:

Dear Exabyte Customer:

As you may know Exabyte announced an agreement to outsource its North American Depot Repair Service operation to Teleplan International, Inc. on July 17. This transfer will enable Exabyte to offer better service to our customers in the future. Unfortunately, this transition has encountered a series of unanticipated challenges which have caused unexpected delays in bringing the new service provider to full repair capabilities. This is a temporary situation, but none-the-less it is painful for our current customer base at the moment. Both Exabyte and Teleplan are aggressively working to resolve the service transition issues. However, the current backlog of units to be repaired may cause significant delays before your unit is repaired and returned to you. Recognizing the importance of regular backups Exabyte is offering our Customers an upgrade path to the award-winning VXA Packet technology. A number of VXA products are included in this Service recovery offer at a substantial discount from normal prices during this interruption to our service process. While all Exabyte sales are usually handled via our channel partners, this disruption warrants a special solution. We are therefore offering you the opportunity to purchase the VXA products directly from Exabyte as a direct credit card purchase to upgrade from your current equipment. Exabyte offers the following products for your consideration as replacements for the equipment you sent in for repair.

Exabyte recommends upgrading from your current product to a VXA-2 tape product. VXA-2 Packet drive products perform well on both 10/100BaseT and Gigabit networks.

Gee, thanks for the offer to spend only $800 to replace the perfectly adequate drive that's still under warrenty!
